As you may know, homecoming is coming up pretty soon, and this year I want to run for homecoming court. But, I don’t want to run for the most obvious position; this year I want to be different. I am writing this to tell you the reasons why I, Kayla Landry, should be allowed to run for homecoming king rather than queen.
In the world we live in today, people come in many different shapes and sizes and they believe in different things. I feel as if everyone should have the option to run for what they choose because not everyone feels comfortable with their gender. Personally, I'm comfortable with my gender, but mentally, I believe I'm a gender neutral. What I mean by that is I can think and act like a male but I still have all the physical aspects of a female.
I have always had the idea of running for a male role but never had the courage to until now. Although I know it’s very untraditional for a female to be King I would like to break that tradition not just for me, but for anybody else that always had the thought but was too scared or unsure to run for the opposite role. I believe by me running for King could make a change for the better by bringing people out of their shell, and give students the courage to feel free and comfortable to do whatever they feel is right.
