Today, Teaching Assistants are highly qualified and highly skilled people, indeed job advertisements now cite specific academic qualifications a TA needs to have.  TA's work way beyond their remit and definately way beyond their pittiful pay bands.

Teaching Assistants play a vital role within schools; supporting the most needy and often the most demanding pupils.  Where a teacher may meet these needy pupils a few hours a week, a teaching assistant may support them continuously, creating debilitating stress, personal injury and total lack of motivation due to the institutionalised lack of appreciation from senior leaders, school boards and County Councils.

For Teaching Assistants to still be treated as "termly" workers, to have only 39 weeks pay per year and still be paid such pittiful wages is SHAMEFUL, WRONG AND UNJUST!
