Petition against the proposed speed increase on Ulnes Walton Lane

Petition against the proposed speed increase on Ulnes Walton Lane
Why this petition matters
Lancashire County Council are proposing to increase the speed limit on Ulnes Walton Lane (along the stretch outside The Oaks) from 30mph to 40mph, despite the fact that several residents have already raised concerns in the past. Although the speed limit is currently 30mph and goes to 40mph after the lay-by, vehicles often drive at ridiculous speeds along there (50mph+).
Ulnes Walton Lane adjoins a bridle path and is regularly used by walkers, cyclists, horseriders and tractors. In addition, there are many elderly residents, there is a primary school just around the corner and also a school for people with special educational needs nearby. The fact that there isn't a pavement or streetlights all the way along makes it even more hazardous.
Residents feel unsafe tending to the greenery at the front of their properties and when pulling in and out of their driveways. Also several pets have been killed on the road - the residents fear that it will be their children next. Increasing the speed limit on Ulnes Walton Lane will undoubtedly result in someone being seriously hurt/killed which is the reason for this petition. Instead of increasing the speed limit, traffic calming measures need to be put in place to ensure the safety of everyone using Ulnes Walton Lane.
