Once again Lancashire County Council has decided to deprive an already struggling and needy Town of more GREEN SPACE. Today during a telephone conversation I asked could they clarify their intentions of GLENBURN PLAYING FIELDS and I asked if the field could be maintained (GRASS CUT) so that we the SKEM MEN-ACES a football club for adults with a learning disability could continue to train in a safe environment along with other community clubs and the general public. The reply frankly had me so shocked, enraged and yes brought me to tears.
I was told that they were trying to discourage people from using Glenburn field and that regular maintenance was not an option. When I asked why you would leave a huge and well-used field like Glenburn to become overgrown I was utterly astounded to be told that a local farmer will put a tractor on it every few months and use the mown grass as SILAGE. The Skem Men-Aces have trained on this ground like many other clubs since 2010. It is a central location for most of our lads, easy travel routes and a place that they love to train on. Why would LCC want to discourage people using Glenburn field? For me, the answer is simple, so that they can eventually say that it is not being used and so It can be used for future developments. Please let me assure you that this is not just about the Skem Men-Aces it's about once again kicking Skelmersdale in the teeth and letting this amazing community just make do.
PLEASE sign my petition and help me and our community to show LCC that this is totally unacceptable and that we as a community will simply not allow it to happen. Thank you.
