Save Our Guild Wheel

Save Our Guild Wheel has been initiated by the Guild Wheel Users to protect the much loved Guild Wheel from the threats posed by existing and proposed new housing developments.  These new developments backed by short sighted developers, who have no regard for Preston's 'Jewel in the crown' - The Guild Wheel, are being supported by Lancashire County Council staff.

These actual and planned schemes are located on quiet country lanes used by the Guild Wheel and some Sustrans funded  'Safe Routes to Schools'.  These developments are already severely undermining the high safety and environmental standards of the Guild Wheel.  Better accesses are available nearby, which are much less destructive to the Guild Wheel, but sadly these are being ignored in the developers haste to build the new estates.  If more are approved they will undoubtedly deter its great use, especially by the most vulnerable of road users.

The Guild Wheel took over a decade to build and is used by 100,000 a year. Lancashire County Council call it a 'Lasting Legacy' lets keep it that way.  Please support the campaign and help Save Our Guild Wheel.  Your signature and comments are very much appreciated.

Thank you very much for your support.

'Don't let them build on your Guild Wheel' campaign launched in January 2015, proudly joined up with the  'Save Our Guild Wheel' Campaign on the 1st October 2015.

Don't let them build on your Guild Wheel

100,000 cyclists use the fantastic Preston Guild Wheel every year.  We would like as many supporting signature's as possible to present to Preston City Council to stop them approving a planning application to build on the most hazardous section - D'urton Lane. Development on Greenfield sites is shocking enough but when the safety of cyclist and pedestrians are compromised we need to stand firmly together and say NO!

The successful Guild Wheel is a 21 mile ''Greenway" that encircles the city of Preston, linking the city to countryside.  It is both a walking and cycling route with users ranging from very keen enthusiasts to family's on a day out together. The D'urton Lane section, unlike the vast majority of the Guild Wheel, forces cyclists, pedestrians and cars together, in many instances, dangerously. With no footpaths for the majority of its length, in some places not wide enough for 2 cars and used by many drivers as a short cut, it is perceived by many users as the most hazardous section. It is very disturbing to hear that a planning application has been submitted by Persimmon Homes to build 118 houses (currently only approximately 55) all of which would be accessed through an existing residential garden on D'urton Lane via a very inappropriate new junction.  This would lead to many more cars and pedestrians on this lane, when in fact Preston City Council should be looking to reduce the number of cars to make it safer. If this planning application is passed it will take 4 years to complete which means construction vehicles will become common place, it will ruin a beautiful section of the Guild Wheel but most importantly put the lives of all the users at an increased risk - it will be an accident waiting to happen!

Preston City Council need to be aware that 'Prestonians' are very proud of the Guild Wheel, it offers a fantastic link around Preston and enables all who use it to get out in the fresh air, exercise and spend time with family and friends. Lancashire County Council call it a 'Lasting Legacy' - lets keep it this way - Don't let them build on your Guild Wheel - Please sign the petition now and share with your friends and family

Thank you very much for your support.
