Lambertville - Stop/pause the current police station plan and process!
LAMBERTVILLE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
OUR POLICE ARE BEING MOVED TO A FLOOD ZONE 3 MONTHS AFTER IDA!
FINAL VOTE THIS THURSDAY AT LAMBERTVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOL @ 7PM (CHECK LAMBERTVILLENJ.ORG FOR UPDATES)
BACKGROUND
The City plans to sell the current police site to a developer who plans to build a 4 story high rise with 27 units, 5 of which will be affordable. They have selected 80 Lambert Lane (the old gym behind Riverhorse) as the new location and will be casting final votes on Thursday to move forward.
REASONS TO OPPOSE
-The new police location is in a flood zone. It also has a single lane of access to the corner of Coryell and Lambert Lane, right in the heart of town. Is this really where we want to put first responders?
-The City is withholding the total cost of the project, leaving the public in the dark on one of the biggest decisions in Lambertville history.
-The City will be in the hole within 3 years of the relocation. With the $33 million in school funding that just passed the referendum many will not be able to afford the property taxes this will add.
-The City Planner was excluded from conversations about the new location and the City is not telling the public which experts approved this location.
-Ida changed everything. Why is this being rushed as the mayor is leaving office? We desperately need affordable housing but there are other options. We need to ask for an extension on our affordable housing agreement and reassess our situation.
-The current police site is likely contaminated and situated under high tension wires that are known to cause childhood cancer and genetic damage. Not suitable for affordable housing or any housing. Taxpayers will be on the hook for any remediation.
