Equal Rights for Michigan State Licensed Commercial Fishermen

0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!

Three house bills, HB 4567, 4568, and 4569 are about to devastate the remaining 13 state-licensed active commercial fishing families in Michigan. We need you to voice your opposition of these bills. Since the early 1800s, commercial fishing in the Great Lakes has provided healthy fish for many across the United States who could not fish on their own. These bills propose the removal of Yellow Perch from our accepted species list and place unrealistic rules on commercial fishermen.  If these bills get made into law, it will put all state-licensed commercial fishermen out of business in Michigan forcing the Michigan public to rely on Canada and other states for their fish dinners. Please sign our Petition to demand that the State of Michigan gives state-licensed fishermen equal fishing rights and equal opportunities so we can keep providing healthy, local sustainable fish to the residents of Michigan as we have been doing for hundreds of years.  This is the first step in preventing these bills from becoming law.  Currently our commercial fishing law states that the State of Michigan is responsible to ensure that we are able to maintain business in a profitable and economical manner. Please STAND UP and voice your SUPPORT of our historic small businesses that make this State a wonderful place for local food before its too late.  If you can do more please do.  Right now, we need supporters to email and more importantly call Representative Lilly in opposition to these bills.  His email is JimLilly@house.mi.gov and his phone number is (517) 373-0838. He supports these bills and needs to know that most Michiganders do not. We appreciate your support and will keep you posted as things develop in the House.
