Part 1)

If a 250 bed males corrections facility is approved:

  • Nearby Property Values will go down 5%-40%
  • Crime will increase
  • Businesses will move leaving empty buildings breeding more crime
  • The City will continue to "dump" in this designate this area
  • The women at the Corrections facility down the street are set up for failure
  • Local vulnerable population at risk with Women Infant and Children and special needs facility nearby

Part 2) Currently under Article 2 of the Zoning Ordinance the City's Planning Commission - local volunteers are responsible for the final vote after a public hearing. It’s not in the best interest of the community to have Volunteer Citizens (i.e. The Planning Commission) make this decision on behalf of the City Council members that recently adopted the Comprehensive Plan that deems this area as growth - industrial. We want City Council Members - who are elected to be required to vote.
