Lakeland Highschool's dress code has not been updated since 2017 as we know fashions have been updated and do not follow the dress codes standards. Following that the dress code directly targets the schools students who dress feminine, staff has also told feminine students that their bodies are a "distraction" and refers to our bodies as being inherently sexual which is why they suggest we cover up which directly contributes to rape culture. I for one will not stand to have my body sexualized by staff and other students because we are told school is a place we are supposed to feel safe but how can our feminine students feel safe when Lakeland staff tells them to cover up to avoid sexual harassment for staff and other students. The school should not encourage this type of thinking and behavior so how about for a change the school protects feminine students from sexual harassment instead of telling us we are "asking for it" if we dress a certain way. Our schools feminine students should be able to express themselves and feel safe in doing so in our community. So I ask my fellow students do you want to see a change in this schools sexist and misogynistic standards? If you want to stop being sexualized by the staff and stop having staff treat our bodies as sexual objects SIGN THIS PETION.
