Maggie May started this petition to Lakeland Central School District and

This petition is a request from LCSD families to make available an all in-person learning option alongside the proposed hybrid option for families with two working parent families who risk losing their jobs and livelihoods if they are forced into an all remote learning for the 2020/21 school.

It is also a plea for our children who have suffered greatly, mentally, academically, emotionally, and behaviorally during the second half of the 2019/20 school year, which demonstrated that remote learning is ineffective and harmful to our children's long term education and mental health.

Furthermore, in-person learning helps to level the playing field for children of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Remote learning will only deepen the societal gaps and disparities, benefiting those with means and resources, while leaving out children without that luxury.

As parents we are requesting an all in-person learning option be made available to every family in the district, regardless of the reason of their choice.

While we understand that the plan for re-opening schools must be safe and fluid as different scenarios will arise, having the option to choose 100% in-person learning now can help our working families continue to thrive and contribute to this community, prioritize the most effective mode of learning for children, and maximize all children's chance for a productive future.

We are also concerned that by not providing families with an all in-person option, this will cause families to withdraw their children for the 2020-21 school creating funding repercussions.

We are all in this together, and we hope LCSD will act quickly to meet the needs of our district families.
