Earlier this year, in the light of COVID19 pandemic, Lake Forest College closed its Sports and Recreation Center. Recently, Lake Forest College administration decided to pivot to a fully remote academic model for Fall 2020, during which the gym seems to have been decided to remain closed. The lack of physical exercise has been negatively affecting summer residents' motivation and well-being.

What we are asking for:
We would like to appeal the administration's decision, and request them to re-open the gym exclusively for Lake Forest College students who cannot go back home and will remain on campus during the Fall semester. We also request administration to allow students remaining on campus to work in the Sport and Recreation Center.

Doing so will greatly improve the health and well-being of students (physical and mental), as well as provide them with some on campus work-study opportunities that will make it easier to afford buying some ingredients - given that the dining facilities is not expected operate during the semester, this may be of some help to students.

Needless to say, re-opening the gym will require having some safety precautions in place. Wearing a mask while inside, having student workers regularly disinfect the surfaces, as well as having students practice social and personal responsibility by wiping the equipment after use, are just a few measures we will be taking.
