As adults we have a mandatory 30 minute lunch break with most adults having an hour for lunch.  A time that we can relax, decompress from the morning work load, I believe our children deserve the same.  Students of Lafayette Parish school systems have 20 minutes total to eat their lunch on a good day.  Keep in mind the bad days are 15 minutes or less. They are rushed to eat lunch and not allowed to converse with other children during lunch time.  I propose lunch and recess together for a total of one hour. 

Students' schedules should not be so regimented that these luxuries in life become dissatisfying and an unpleasant experience in their day.  The quality of lunches on along with the short time given to eat their lunches has created a distaste for lunch time for our children and they deserve better.  Our children constantly talk about how difficult of a year these last two school years have been and if we can implement so much for their safety, we can do the same for their health; this includes extra time outside and better lunches that children actually eat with an appropriate amount of time to enjoy their food.
