The dress code at Lafayette High School has been used for decades to shame women. These rules are sexist and demonize the female body, which is not inherently sexual. In addition, people with a larger body-type face more punishment for dress code “violations” than others with a different body type. This is blatant body shaming and must be stopped. There are so many examples of this injustice happening, we are demanding a change. The students that attend Lafayette High School are minors. You are targeting minors and implying that we are sexual objects. What we wear has nothing to do with who we are, or our education. You are taking away our right to learn by sexualizing us and pulling us out of class because we’re “showing too much skin” or “creating a distraction”. None of the boys in school are distracted by what we wear. All you’re doing is slut-shaming and taking away our education. By signing this petition we can create a change for the future of everyone in FCPS.
