Lack of Recycling at Sparta Schools

Lack of Recycling at Sparta Schools
Why this petition matters
The matter of global warming within our planet has risen over time to a detrimental state. In 2021, the global surface temperature was ranging within the warmest ever measured since data aging back to the mid-1800’s. Although theres a ranging number of variables contributing to this, the lack of recycling results in the production of harmful gases such as carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere. The lack of recycling also negatively impacts our economy by creating a higher demand for materials that can be reused if recycled. Our school systems should preach sustainability and the importance of maintaining our planets environment by practicing the daily use of recycling in order to create virtue for the future generation of adults. Recycling in schools is especially important because of the fact that 80% of school waste is recyclable. Despite New Jersey requiring (public) schools to recycle, Sparta High School has continued to neglect this regulation. The public schools within the Sparta district supply designated recycling bins, yet still dispose of trash and recycling all together. Not only is this damaging to our environment, the school system is deceitful to our staff, students, and parents.
