Mayor Biggs’s Council Tax Reduction Scheme cuts hit the hardworking people of Tower Hamlets
We call on Mayor John Biggs to reinstate the original Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
Labour Mayor Biggs’s austerity cut to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme has hit hundreds of self employed and other residents. PATH and many other elected members across political persuasions are now dealing with the crisis of residents slapped by massive Council Tax bills with the threat of imminent court orders.
The Changes to the Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme affects working age applicants as of 1 April 2017. The LCTR for 2017/18 was presented to Cabinet on 10th January 2017 where it was approved by Labour Mayor, John Biggs and his Cabinet. It was then sent to the full councill on the 18th January 2017. Labour Mayor Biggs and his Labour councillors all voted for the new changes claiming that it retained 100% of the original scheme.
The changes mean self employed people like mini-cab drivers are been sent huge council tax bills and are having to choose between essential living costs or being pursued by the courts.
We call on the Labour Mayor, John Biggs and his Labour Administration to reinstate the original scheme immediately.
