PETITION FOR CHANGE OF TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AGENT UNION REPRESENTATION

PETITION FOR CHANGE OF TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AGENT UNION REPRESENTATION
$47.00 is mandatorily taken out of each of your paychecks For your membership in Dc37 Local 983, the current Municipal Employee union that covers approximately 280 level 3's and 4's Traffic Enforcement agents. That's about $1,100 annually per person. DC37 Local 983 is the union for over 2,000 park employees. Although Dc37 Local 983 has contributed in the past toward our minor advancements Traffic Enforcement agents lvl 3's and 4's are literally the minority and in NO way a priority for Local 983. Every year the role and responsibilities of the agents has exponentially increased. Every year there is a higher demand for our services. New realities and the "new normal" that NYC faces, demand a new approach to ensure that our titles, status and compensation are in alignment with other uniform personnel. Traffic Agents deserve fair treatment and improved representation. Traffic Enforcement Agents are essential employees working 365 days through natural disasters such as hurricanes or like the most recently Covid-19 pandemic. Despite being essential, little to no recognition has ever been bestowed on the agents. DC37 local 983 has failed to deliver on most of our basic everyday struggles. Based on the myraid of issues the Traffic Enforcement Agents are faced with it is in the best interest to change union representation- this change should be to a union which specializes in the representation of members who work under the law enforcement umbrella. A law enforcement union will be more attuned with the needs and concerns Traffic agents face. Further, a change in unions will also facilitate a contract that is more aligned to other comparable law enforcement labor contracts.
It is within our legal rights based on labor relation laws to decertify a union and change representation upon expiration of the contract . The first step is to call an official vote to secure a petition signed by the majority of the members in the bargaining unit. Members should not be fearful of retaliation as agents are legally protected
IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY SATISFIED WITH REPRESENTATION NOTHING NEED TO BE DONE.
HOWEVER IF YOU BELIEVE A CHANGE IN UNION REPRESENTATION IS NEEDED, SIGN THE PETITION AND PASS IT ALONG TO FELLOW OFFICERS. WHO MAY BE INTERESTED.
