LA FITNESS wrongfully terminated a well-liked personal trainer. They must be made aware that harassement and work-related bullies will not be tolerated.

Re: Termination of Personal Trainer

Dear Mr. Lee

I am writing to express my displeasure with LA FITNESS regarding the termination of personal trainer, Melvin Walker at LA FITNESS gym (4949 west 147th street, Hawthorne, CA 90250) on August 7, 2013. I have been a member at this location for over two years and have seen nothing but professional conduct from Mr. Walker regarding his job as a personal trainer. He is punctual when it comes to our personal training appointments and presents himself to members with the proper attire, which is expected of all LA FITNESS staff. During training sessions, Mr. Walker goes out of his way to motivate and socialize with his clients so that the workouts do not feel like work outs. As a client of his, I feel that this is an important attribute for trainers to have. That is why I enjoyed our sessions so much. I had fun and saw my fitness goals met. When I was not in a training session with Mr. Walker, I would see him walking about the gym floor and offering any assistance to members who had questions. He would do this with a smile and positive attitude.

My training with Mr. Walker started in January of this year and in that time, I have come to the conclusion that Mr. Walker is an honest person who is passionate about his field of work, fitness. He is a person of integrity that LA FITNESS was lucky enough to have. He helped to make the gym a positive place for his clients and regular members. Upon learning of his termination, I questioned management at the gym on why Mr. Walker was terminated. I was not satisfied and did not understand any of their excuses for his termination. Everything Marcelo, who claimed to be the one to fire Mr. Walker, said does not coincide with the kind of service Mr. Walker provided or the professional image upheld.

I will venture further and state that it is my opinion that Mr. Walker has been a victim of work-related bullying from higher management at this location since Mr. Patrick Folsom was relocated to another gym. I feel that the amount of complaints from management have been fabricated and/or coerced into writing to pave the way for his termination.

I am not writing as a friend to Mr. Walker. I am writing as an LA FITNESS member who is so completely unhappy with the direction and underhanded dealings regarding management, that I feel the corporate office needs to step in and put a stop to harassment, discrimination, and work force bullies.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Sandy Quan
