LA County Flood Control: Please Stop Using Roundup and Herbicides in Kagel Canyon Creek!

Los Angeles County Flood Control uses Roundup and other herbicides for weed abatement in our creek in Kagel Canyon, California. Our community has been trying to work with Flood Control for almost a year to find a non-toxic alternative. On Monday, April 23rd, unannounced, they started spraying the creek with herbicides. Residents tried to stop them and Public Works called the sheriff.
Roundup is a probable carcinogen and linked with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and reproductive problems. In addition, it kills tadpoles and frogs, which are a unique feature of our rural area. Other pre-emergent herbicides are also used and are potentially even more toxic, especially in combination with Roundup.
Our creek is only 2.28% of the waterways Flood Control is responsible for or about 2 acres. Considering the unique nature of our area, the closeness of the creek to homes, and the fact that children and animals play in our creek, finding a non-toxic alternative is imperative.
Spraying is expected to occur again in July or August of 2018. If you do not want Roundup and toxic herbicides used in our creek, please sign and share this petition asking Los Angeles County flood control to stop the spraying and work with us to find an alternative!
