Recently I found out that many kitchens are using latex gloves. I had assumed that restaurants used vinyl or nitrile gloves while preparing food until by chance I saw one of the cooks in the kitchen wearing latex gloves. My son has a latex allergy, so I now have to ask if latex gloves are being used when preparing food. Asking is not the issue, but many kitchens either interchange the type of gloves they use, which can cause cross-contamination, or the staff is uninformed and just assume they don't, so incorrect information is given. Why isn't there a law preventing kitchens from using latex gloves? Even doctors' offices are more conscious about using nitrile gloves during examination. This is very dangerous, because I'm sure there are many other people like me, who assumed the same thing and don't think to ask what gloves are being used. I want to do something about this. Latex gloves should not be anywhere near people's food!
