Ian Lambert started this petition to L. B. of Sutton Council

L. B. of Sutton (Liberal) claim to have been pressured by the Government (Conservative) and the Mayor of London (Labour) into coming up with proposals to make safer neighbourhoods with fewer cars and pollution.   An admirable ambition.

They propose to close the rail bridges on Kings Lane, Langley Park Road and York Road for a trial period of 6 months in order to assess the impact.

The ‘impact’ is predictable - travel north/south will now involve having to travel East and West along the A232 and create additional congestion at Cambridge Road, Sutton Court Road one system and the Cheam/A217 crossroads.  In other words an already busy East -West route will have even more pinch points and pollution.

The residents of Cambridge, Oxford and Harrow Roads will also see increased traffic flow.

There ARE alternatives e.g. road width and parking restrictions,  weight and height restrictions.

I personally disagree with the proposals and think that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. I therefore call upon Sutton Council to rescind this decision and come up with some better alternative strategies.  Please sign if you support me in my opinion - I may, of course, be in a complete minority!!
