Heather Miller started this petition to KUSD School Board

In Executive Order 2020-51, Governor Ducey leaves the decision to start in-person learning to each school district while considering the AZDHS guidelines which include cases of COVID per capita, percent testing positivity, and hospitalizations.

Mohave County easily meets the cases per capita and hospitalization recommendations.  Testing in the county has been inconsistent, and Kingman has performed more than half of the tests in the county.  Fortunately, Mohave County Health Dept has provided schools with information by community which was presented at KUSD's recent workshop. Kingman, as a community, has shown recent percent positivity of 5.5% and 4.4%, which meets recommendations, and further shows a continued downward trend.  Kingman meets the guidelines established by AZDHS.

Children have been definitively demonstrated to be less likely to be infected (vector risk) and also are unlikely to be seriously affected by the illness. Children and teachers can safely participate in in-person learning.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has strongly encouraged children to be in school in person, "the AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school."

The director of the CDC, Dr. Robert Redfield has also urged communities to work together for in person school, “I cannot overstate how important I think it is now to get our schools in this nation reopened,” Redfield said at The Hill’s Health Reimagined virtual summit. “The reason I push it is that I truly believe it’s for the public health benefit of these kids.”

Despite claims of one KUSD board member, Ms. Jennifer Shumway, KUSD's board and administrators are safely acting in the best interests of our children. Please sign this petition to show your support for a return to in-person learning.
