Kumon of Quincy’s relocation
Kumon of Quincy’s relocation
We are writing this letter to petition Kumon of Quincy’s relocation to 2 Cheriton Road Quincy MA 02170. We want to address our Kumon families’ and my concerns about the current conditions at our center. Our current center is located at 6 Granite Street Quincy MA 02169. It is a semi basement unit with poor air circulation and lack of windows, which require immediate attention during the time of a pandemic. Additionally, the ongoing parking issue is also getting worse as the city of Quincy is building more condos around the center.
In 2017, Kumon of Quincy Center was forced to relocate because of our rented premises at 27 Cottage Ave, Quincy, MA 02169, was taken by the City of Quincy in the exercise of eminent domain to accommodate for a redevelopment project. We were asked to relocate within 4 months, and as a consequence of the short notice, we were forced to act quickly and relocate to a less than desirable location with higher rent – our current location at 6 Granite Street.
In December 2020, we proposed to relocate to 2 Cheriton Road but was not considered due to the look of the proposed site. Despite the site’s more residential appearance, it was previously a dental office officially zoned as a commercial space. The neighboring buildings are similar businesses with prominent signages that clearly differentiate them from residential areas. The site is located in Quincy’s main road, Hancock Street, with its own 6 parking spaces and many parking spaces nearby for the parents' convenience.
During the time of a pandemic and post pandemic world, I strongly feel that this site is ideal for our Kumon families. The proposed site has over 1,500 sq ft, with many wide and bright windows. It is also across from a supermarket, shops, restaurants and it is a 5-minute walk from the Wollaston train station.
Please let Kumon of Quincy to be relocated to 2 Cheriton Road, Quincy, MA 02170, as student health and safety is our number one priority. Many parents have reiterated these concerns for the current site and have shown support for our proposed change in location.
