Respected sir/ madam,

This letter is to address the grievances of the first year students of Kerala University and their issues regarding exams and online classes. This pandemic situation has affected all of our lives very heavily and at this point it is imperative that we consider this situation at hand before taking any decision. We request the authorities to take the mental and emotional state of students to consideration as all of us are having a tough time dealing with the uncertainty of the situation. The following points are to be duly noted as the major concern of students collectively.

1. The portions for semester 2 has not been fully completed and with that on one hand, classes for semester 3 has started.Conducting exams for semester 2 is not viable while the students are having classes for semester 3.We are facing difficulty in learning the half finished portions of semester 2 while dealing with the semester 3 classes.

2. We request the authorities to kindly refrain from conducting examinations at this point. Online examinations are not satisfactory as many students do not have access to laptop or 4G data/WiFi connectivity. The reduction in brand with can cause jamming of pages which then leads to inability to attempt exams. Offline examination at this situation should not be considered as students from far away places will have difficulty in travelling and this might also lead to social outbreak of pandemic.

3. Many out station students does not have access to their textbooks at home as they had left it at their respective hostels. The online classes have proven to be not efficient and effective in communicating the subjects to students as learning diagrams and graphs and solving problems online is not helpful.

We kindly request you to cancel the Semester 2 UG examinations and find some other sensible methods to promote students to the next semester like what other states like Delhi and Mumbai did.

Yours faithfully

Semester 2, UG students

Kerala University.
