NBC affiliate KSL (Salt Lake City) will not be airing NBC's new gay-themed sitcom "The New Normal".

The station issued the following statement:

"From time to time we may struggle with content that crosses the line in one area or another," said Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL’s parent company, Bonneville International. "The dialogue might be excessively rude and crude. The scenes may be too explicit or the characterizations might seem offensive."

"For our brand, this program feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time."

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has condemned a Utah station for its decision and issued this statement:

"Same-sex families are a beloved part of American television thanks to shows like Modern Family, Glee and Grey’s Anatomy," said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick. "While audiences, critics and advertisers have all supported LGBT stories, KSL is demonstrating how deeply out of touch it is with the rest of the country."

The New Normal tells the story of a successful gay couple who finds a single mother to become their surrogate, starring Justin Bartha, Andrew Rannells, Georgina King and Ellen Barkin.

Calling same-sex families, "rude", "crude", "explicit" and "offensive" is an act of outrageous intolerance. KSL needs to stop perpetuating the belief that same-sex couples and families are inferior and that LGBT people are second-class citizens. KSL owes same-sex families a sincere apology.
