Ardasher Sobir started this petition to Kroger

It was announced that Kroger, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, will provide all employees with nothing but a gift card ($25) for groceries and other needs.

Everyday, millions of Kroger employees in the form of sales associates and baggers are being exposed to millions of individuals that could be carrying the novel virus. The cashiers are constantly touching money, merchandise that others have touched right before them, and are also in very close proximity to every single customer that decides to walk through their register.

This exposure not only puts the employees at direct risk, but also puts vulnerable loved ones that are at home at much greater risk.

A personal viewpoint:

My mother is a sales associate at Quality Food Center (Kroger owned) in Washington and continues to be forced to go to work as usual, despite the spreading virus. Everyday that she comes back home could be the day that she brings the deadly virus along with her, right home to my father and grandmother. My father, a diabetic with additional liver problems, is very vulnerable to this type of disease and could die as a result. He has been staying at home and does his best to isolate from other individuals in order to protect himself and others during this time. What is the point, however, when my mother is forced to work as a cashier at such great risk of exposure, and then returns after this exposure?

I insist that Kroger, who gave out measly $25 gift cards in the midst of a pandemic, be held accountable for their greed and announce paid time off for ALL employees that deem they are at a greater vulnerability to COVID-19. This paid time off must be applicable to all individuals, and NOT just those that have tested positive or are showing symptoms. Paid time should be provided for at least 2 weeks, with an extension possible if the pandemic continues to worsen. This paid time off allowance must be applicable to those that believe they are in a position that could put vulernerable loved ones and others at risk. This includes individuals in close contact with the elderly and others with pre-existing health conditions, as the WHO deemed they are at greater vulnerability.

The paid time off during this crisis will be beneficial to countless employees currently putting themselves and others at risk by going to work everyday.

Thank you.
