Keep Ralphs/The Kosher Experience on Pico Open

Kroger announced the closure of 3 LA-area stores in a statement this week including the Ralphs #198 location with a Kosher Experience at 9616 W Pico Blvd, giving no warning to constituents who frequent the store.

This location's proximity to the Pico-Robertson Jewish community, paired with its extensive kosher sections (including bakery, sushi, deli, hot food counter and freezer section) has been a staple of the local community and countless observant Jewish patrons rely on the Kosher services of this location which are not available at other nearby chain supermarkets. Closing this location without any notice is an insult to the years of patronage the Pico-Robertson community has given to Ralphs and the Kosher Experience it houses.

It is egregious that Kroger has made this decision in response to a Los Angeles County ordinance requiring "Hero Pay" for the dedicated essential workers at grocery stores, citing financial concerns. Kroger has done considerably well throughout the pandemic. To close any store during a global pandemic because of a requirement to compensate essential workers--who have put their safety on the line--with a livable wage is unforgivable. To close Store #198 and punish its loyal niche clientele and dedicated employees is an absolute outrage.

We demand that Kroger's Ralphs Division in California shelve its plans to shutter the Ralphs #198/Kosher Experience on Pico Blvd and engage with the local community before making any further determination for store closures in the area.

To take additional action call Kroger Customer Service directly to ask them not to close story #198. The phone number is 1-800-576-4377 and press 8 to register your concern.
