Kim Henkel started this petition to Kristine Orr

This year our second graders at Harrison Ave were blessed to be divided into three small classes, with an average of fourteen students per class. The change came about because our principal pushed to have their huge first grade classes split up so these children would have access to a better education from a teacher who was not overwhelmed with over twenty students in their classroom. This change has allowed our students more one on one time with their teacher this year and decreased behavioral issues within the classrooms. As our students make the jump to third grade it is important that we keep this low ratio. The transition to third grade is a hard one for many students who struggle with the high expectations that go along with state testing. We need to keep our third grade class sizes small so our kids can get the support they need to succeed. Furthermore, it is not fair to our amazing teachers to expect them to maintain their own mental health with twenty three students in their classes, many with special needs and behavioral challenges.  Please help me by signing this petition to keep our classes small and consider coming to a Board of Ed meeting or e-mailing Kristine Orr, to voice your concerns.
