Bring Oral Deaf Education to Rochester

Currently, there is not an option in Rochester, NY for families to send their deaf or hard of hearing child to a program that utilizes their technology of hearing aids and cochlear implants to teach children listening and spoken language. Our son, Bobby, was born with severe hearing loss. When looking for the right program for him, we realized there wasn't an oral deaf education program for Early Intervention or Pre-school age kids in the Rochester area. The closest we found was an hour away in Buffalo. We decided this was the best choice for Bobby, so we sent him to Buffalo Hearing and Speech's Oral Deaf Program. We drove there every day from July 2013-August 2014. It was life changing for Bobby. He successfully mainstreamed in kindergarten, and is now thriving in 2nd grade. He has bilateral cochlear implants and is fully oral. We are in the process of trying to bring an auditory/oral program to Rochester. The children and families in the Rochester area deserve to have this option for their children. Please help us support this by signing our petition. No financial support needed, just your signature!
