Please pass this message along to other students and staff at KPU.

Given the rise of COVID-19, students have had to make a transition from in-person lectures to online schooling. This transition is appreciated by students; however, online schooling does take its toll on students mental health.

Online schooling requires students to engage in more work when compared to an in-person lecture. With online schooling, students must deal with asynchronous lectures, scattered due dates, numerous learning checkpoints, multiple forum discussions, and random quizzes/assignments that make planning the semester's schedule difficult because the semester is always in flux. This burden, along with the psychological repercussions of COVID-19, has left many students questioning whether they want to attend Summer classes at all.

As such, those who sign this petition are aiming to extend KPU's break between Spring and Summer semester by at least 1 additional week. As a byproduct of this decision, KPU can be on the same schedule as other Universities such as SFU and UBC who allowed their students to extend the break between Winter and Spring Semester.

Students have voiced that they need an extended break to recuperate. As stated earlier, some students have even decided to not attend Summer semester because they need a break from online learning. Extending the break between Spring and Summer semester gives students the opportunity to get some much deserved rest. Additionally, it gives burned-out students, who were considering taking Summer classes, an opportunity to happily enroll in classes for Summer.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

A Student at KPU
