End Sony Abuse

The problem we would like to solve, is the uninterrupted abuse that artist signed to a record label under Sony get. For representation, Mariah Carey states, that when she was in an abusive relationship with Tommy Mottola, the co-owner of Universal Music Group (a music label owned by Sony) he was in control of everything."For me, to really get out, it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage but a business thing where the person was in control of my life."

As well as this, in 2014, Kesha sued Dr Luke (a music producer that worked for RCA Records, a music label owned by Sony), seeking to void all of their contracts because of how, the sue claimed, Dr Luke sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused Kesha, to the point where she nearly lost her life. There are also rumours that Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga have also been sexually abused by Dr Luke because they are very strong on Kesha's case, as in they were against what Dr Luke did. In 2014, an NY court counter sued Kesha, because of false accusations when it was true. On February 25th Sony told the NY Times that it is not allowed to legally terminate the contract, and Kesha had to work with Dr Luke despite what he had done to her and other clients.

Michael Jackson was signed to a music label that was owned by Sony, Sony Records, and he was abused as a singer. Michael died of an accidental drug overdose, but was later classed as a homicide, this, suspiciously, happened soon after Michael spoke out about the abuse Sony gave to its artists, like holding a banner that stated "Sony Kills Music", which is blunt irony. Michael Jackson was then accused, by the father of the child when he was working on a film with Sony, of sexually abusing his 13 year old kid. Melbrooks, the father of the child, said he hated Sony as much as he hated Hitler, and killed himself soon after Michael Jackson died. Michael Jackson wanted to continue his contract with Sony, however because he had accused them of so much, he later died, the same year. Michael could not sell any of his own shares to get more money because Sony kept it all to themselves. When Michael died, he had no custody of his children and didn't have wife, because she divorced him due to the child abuse claims that come from Sony.), and she attempted going to court to make sure that Sony didn't use Michael's death to their advantage, however she didn't succeed and now Sony use his death to their advantage.

Fifth Harmony were also apart of this abuse chain. Camila Cabello was favoured when she was signed to Epic Records, a music label owned by Sony. She had her own manager and was made the face of the group. Commenting on this, Normani was complimenting the group members when she scarcely complimented Camila, because she was favoured due to their contract. Lauren's, a Fifth Harmony member, mother unfollowed all of the Cabello's because of the contract they had, making Camila the favourite and putting the rest in the shadows. Even after Fifth Harmony stopped producing money as a group, they all began getting shares of the money from the group and Camila was getting more. It is also said that Sony told Camila to leave as there were many none refund bookings made and if Camila left, Sony would get a lot of money. A Fifth Harmony lawyer, after seeing all of the contracts that other big artists had, said that Fifth Harmony has the worst contract in the music industry. In a relevant May Billboard, the girls expressed some pretty valid concerns with "the industry". "They sell you this present of rainbows and butterflies, and as a 16-year-old that's what I brought," Jauregui told the magazine, "It's why I did X Factor and why I ended up in a group. But then you're working so hard, so young...[Meanwhile] my friends are in college, telling me about their days and what they're studying. You're having to put a smile on the red carpet. It's like, 'Who am I? Am I for myself or for this?'" And later Normani went on to say, "'What kind of job are we doing' I watched my great-grandmother get buried on FaceTime. We're all so family-oriented, and we've all lost people on the road."

Recently, BTS have been signed with Columbia Records, a music label, also, owned by Sony. K-pop stars are already very overworked, and the fact that they will now be signed to a label that does not tolerate the artists feelings and well being, they will be even more overworked. Sony, as a music label, monitor everything that the artists do. They monitor their diets, don't let them date, monitor who they talk to, what they say. And as well as BTS, other k-pop groups such as, GOT7 and SHINee, are signed to Sony music labels such as, Sony Records.  As k-pop fans already know, for example BTS's Jungkook, was put on breathing support after concert and as well as this, J-Hope was found throwing up on the side of the stage after a performance. BTS and other k-pop groups signed to Sony music labels, will barely receive any money for all the hard work they do, and would be very abused. They have signed a contract where they will be working for Sony for years, on average 20 hours a day, and receive barely any money.
