Why this petition matters

Started by John Smith

Why is it that an established University such as ours can only open the library 5 days a week during the COVID crisis? Especially when Sheffield Hallam, Leeds and other Universities across the country seem to have better arrangements. As students, we understand the need to reduce opening hours, but the fact they are not open on a weekend, open at least for the entire academic day, nor accessible to students that just want to be able to work in the library whilst waiting for an appointment in the area without booking, is unreasonable.

I am asking, on behalf of the University student population, for an explanation as to why the opening hours are so reduced when other universities remain open for longer. I am also asking why the libraries are not available over the weekend. Finally, I am asking why students should have to book and cannot simply arrive (provided the reduced capacity hasn't been met) and leave within a given period of time?

Overall, I am requesting on behalf of the student population, an extension of the opening hours, if at all possible. Thank you.
