Let The Students Be Heard
Let The Students Be Heard
Why are we back in school @KnoxSchools? There have been around 24 cases of Coronavirus per 100,000 people in the state of Tennessee this past week, yet we are now in school and in person. That's around 1,638 in the past week. We do not have the technology for real time test results for the Coronavirus, meaning next week these statistics could either go up or go down. Are We, The students, really that miniscule in society to were you feel you have the right to force us into an uncertain situation that we have only been aware of since January, and have only been fighting since March? We do not even have a vaccine for this wide spread virus. You cannot simply force us back into schools, on the assumption that toddlers, tweens, and teens aren’t going to spread the virus. If you believe we will social distance, wear masks, and practice proper hand washing, you are very, very wrong. The kids and teens in Knox county schools are the type to lick their hands and chase after you, yelling “ Coronavirus!”. You cannot force us into schools, with the belief that we are responsible enough to slow the spread of Coronavirus. After all, we aren't responsible enough to buy alcohol, so why should we be responsible for the health and safety of others.
So im going to ask again, Why are we back in school @KnoxSchools? I believe we are being used as guinea pigs, are we the toes of a common belief, being dipped into the water to see if its too hot or too cold? I do not share that belief, So why should I be made to participate in this global experiment?
In our schools, specifically West High School, We are not following the guidelines for reopening. We are not social distancing in the already crowded hallways, teachers and students aren't wearing their masks. We eat lunch without our masks on, granted we are sitting with one seat in between us, But can’t a sneeze go up to 26 feet (7.92 m) from its source?
We are not prepared for another pandemic. So why does it seem we are pushing to start another pandemic?
We The Students, need to free ourselves from this social hierarchy, and speak up for ourselves, our voices need to be heard to.
