No Scanner Encryption!

Recently, Knox County 911 has made the decision to encrypt all law enforcement radio traffic. This decision has resulted in all Knox County residents being left in the dark about criminal, and potentially life-threatening situations that directly affect us. While we understand the importance of keeping our first responders safe, this change will only serve to create a widening gap between law enforcement and the people who support them. As of late, the Knox County Sheriff's Office as well as the MVPD have reached out to residents asking for our help to identify and report criminal activity. And yet those agencies do not believe we should be allowed to hear the activity they are wanting us to report. MVPD Chief Roger Monroe was quoted as saying "You have to have a little trust in your police department". Well how about our police department having a little trust in the community? Let the overwhelming amount of law abiding citizens help our force, as well as allowing us to keep our families safe, by being able to hear accurate timely updates on what is happening in our community.
As a community, we implore our elected officials to rethink this decision and NOT continue with encrypting the law enforcement radio traffic.
