Rowville Residents started this petition to Knox City Council and

We say NO to the proposed dog park at Wellington Village Reserve.

We are determined to keep Emerson Place Reserve a park for all local families to enjoy. At the moment, the park is a place for everyone, it is in great walking distance for many residents in the estate and it is in a great position next to our local shopping centre. At the moment, the park is used for many purposes, these include:

• Picnics for families and friends

• A place to sit where the grass is green and have a chat with a pal, a place that is clean and safe.

• A place for children to play and explore.

• A place where teenagers and the young of heart can ride a skateboard and throw some hoops.

• A place where you can exercise safely.

• A place to ride a bike

• A place to climb a tree.

• A safe place to have a leisurely stroll or a jog.

• A place to sit and think.

• A place to throw a frisbee, kick a ball, play a game of cricket or to play a game of tag.

As you can see, the local residents love this park, it is well used for many reasons. We know that we are safe, our children and the elderly are safe to cross and use the park. If the council decides to go ahead and completely change our well used recreation area for 1 sole purpose, we are sure this will be detrimental to the local community.

The local residents would like to put forward this petition to stop the development of the dog park at Emerson Place Reserve for the following reasons:

• There was a lack of formal community consultation in the streets and with the local residents who would be significantly affected by the placement of this dog park, which in effect, prevented any objection.

• Parking is insufficient in the area to facilitate a dog park. This will cause congestion with traffic and parking problems for the local residents and will take up already sparse parking at the local shopping centre, which is already more than overrun with cars on the weekends and other busy periods.

• The risk of dangerous dogs being allowed to roam free in a large area poses risks to people who like to lounge on the lawns or children playing nearby. There has already been incidents in Emerson Place where dogs have escaped, destroyed property and killed much loved pets.

• Small children and runners risk injury due to free roaming dogs, dogs walking past on the leash may be set upon by dogs not under the control of their owners.

• Increase in faeces, this is already an issue in the area, with dog walkers already not cleaning up after their dogs.

• Significant animal (There is a resident echidna that lives in the park and blue tongue lizards)and bird life at the reserve, cockatoos, varied parrots, tawny frog owls for example may be disturbed and may move on permanently.

• Pedestrian, vehicle and animal congestion will permanently affect the local residents and clog up our usually peaceful streets.

We ask that you please reconsider placing this dog park in a less residential area, one where the local people will not be affected and where the park will not devalue our community and it’s surrounds.
