Protect Wetlands by deferring extension of Biehn Dr.
Protect Wetlands by deferring extension of Biehn Dr.
Why this petition matters
We, the undersigned, are opposed to the extension of Biehn Drive through a Class 1 Provincially Significant Wetland (PSW) for the following reasons:
1. Further review of the existing transportation studies fails to find proof of the need for the road extension.
2. A road through the PSW will result in salt water run off which will likely result in the destruction of the habitat for the cold water brook trout and any other ecologically sensitive species in the wetland.
3. The development that will result from the road extension will put additional pressure on our groundwater and aquifers from where the Region of Waterloo draws 70% of our drinking water.
Therefore, we are requesting a deferral of the Biehn Drive extension until Robert Ferrie Road is connected to Strasburg Road. At that time, a new transportation study can be performed to determine if the Biehn Drive extension is necessary.
