Please Hold a Kirwan Commission Listening Session in Kent County

0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!

We feel that the schedule for the current Kirwan Commission listening sessions does not adequately cover all districts that will be most impacted by the decisions of the Commission. According to a Baltimore Sun article from December 8, 2016 the revised formula for calculating MOE could "...require Talbot, Kent and Worcester counties to bear 100 percent of K-12 education costs."

The parents and residents of Kent County request that you consider holding an additional listening session in Kent County prior to your presentation to Gov. Hogan in December.

Kent County is considered one of the wealthiest counties in Maryland yet over 60% of our school population qualifies for FARM. Our County Commissioners are predicting flat revenue for the next few years and our school district has not only consolidated down to a single Middle School but our 5 Elementary Schools have been consolidated down to only 3. We have declining enrollments and few funding resources at our disposal besides local and state funding.

We believe if the Commission follows through on its recommendation to strip Kent County of all state education funding, the results would be catastrophic. We hope that you will consider our request and plan an additional session in Kent County.

Thank you.
