Reopen Huddersfield Birth Centre and Maternity Ward
Huddersfield Royal Infirmary has had its maternity ward and birth centre closed. The original reason was stated as due to covid but there are many other excuses now circling around - because of the debts from Calderdale Royal, due to low birth rates in Huddersfield (which is bound to happen when we cannot give birth in Huddersfield).
More and more women and their partners are having problems with Calderdale Royal Infirmary as it clearly can’t cope with the number of births there.
Why should women have to travel as far as Wakefield and Sheffield to give birth when we have a perfectly good hospital here, amazing midwives and staff who are unable to use the facilities and promise after promise that the ward will be open soon? If it can be used for routine appointments and check ups then it can be used as a birthing suite and for deliveries.
Let’s get the ball rolling, get some answers and bring back the right to give birth in our town!
