Edithvale residents would benefit from a basketball half-court in their suburb
We would like to petition the Kingston Council to install a basketball half-court within the Edithvale area. An ideal location would be within the Edithvale Recreation Reserve where many local residents already make use of sports facilities.
This area is already serviced by good lighting, parking and finished paths making it a great place to install a further community sports facility such as a basketball half-court.
With the recent challenges of Covid, access to other local community facilities such as the Edithvale Primary School basketball courts are not available leaving many kids with no other local area to practice. Whilst there are a few other half courts in adjoining suburbs these are not easily accessible for younger children to walk or ride to.
Edithvale now has its own basketball club, The Edithvale Pelicans, established by local parents due to a demand for teams for local children within the Chelsea Basketball Association. This club has seen lots of growth in the 2-3 years since it was established demonstrating that local children are very active in this particular sport.
We believe a half-court in our local community would be a positive benefit; it would foster the interest in basketball of younger children and allow all kids and adults to practice their skills and socialise with friends whilst being active.
Your support of this petition would assist in showing Kingston Council that this facility is required within our community.
