Sunnyside Neighbourhood Parkland Petition

Whereas a park and recreation analysis of 2011 indicates that Sunnyside is one of the most deficient neighbourhoods in terms of parkland per capita, and
Whereas the population of the area has increased significantly since then, and
Whereas the Provincial Policy Statement calls for a full range and equitable distribution of publicly-accessible parklands, and
Whereas there are no other sites for increasing parkland in this neighbourhood and
Whereas the City purchased the St. Joseph’s/St. Mary’s school site primarily for parkland, and
Whereas 75% of the site is currently open recreational space, and
Whereas this site has been extensively used by the community during summer vacation and non-school hours
Now therefore City Council be requested that any future use of this site provide for the same amount of public open space as has been enjoyed by the community for almost 70 years.
