Tell Kings Highlands: DON'T RAISE OUR RENT!

Kings Highlands Apartments announced a rent increase, which will go into effect on September 1st. For a 1-bedroom apartment, the monthly cost will increase from $645 per month to $695 per month. For a 2-bedroom apartment, the monthly cost will increase from $740 to $790. This is an increase of $50 per month and will cost renters $600 per year! Our cost of living is going up, and Kings Highlands has not improved a single thing to justify this increase!
The people who live at Kings Highlands are working-class people and families. We are students and workers. We are families with children. We have lost jobs and taken pay cuts because of Covid-19. We have worked hard and made many sacrifices to keep rent paid and to keep food on our tables. Meanwhile, the Showe Management Group that runs Kings Highlands has plenty of private property holdings and other profitable ventures to sustain them. They are rich elites and they have not given us any reason to demand more of our money!
Showe Management advertises that Kings Highlands has additional on-site storage space, but additional storage is no longer offered on-site!
Showe Management advertises that Kings Highlands has on-site laundry facilities, but the machines are often broken, the hot water for washing is disconnected, and the facilities are always dirty!
Showe Management advertises that Kings Highlands has limited-access entrances, but many of the doors do not close and lock completely, so we are still bothered by door-to-door scammers!
Showe Management advertises that Kings Highlands has 24-hour emergency maintenance, but they do not keep enough maintenance people on staff! Our property manager and our maintenance are overworked and underpaid!
We the People of Kings Highlands Apartments demand a fair say in our housing! We demand NO RENT INCREASE, or make the rent increase worth our money by meeting these DEMANDS:
- Fix broken doors! We demand repair and maintenance on all doors to our apartment buildings. Limited access means limited access!
- Fix broken laundry machines and clean up the laundry rooms! We deserve on-site laundry that really works!
- Re-open the on-site storage space for renters! Storage used to be available on-site and is still being advertised to potential renters!
- Hire more maintenance and office staff! We deserve to live in a facility where the common areas are cleaned and our maintenance requests are filled in a timely manner. Our on-site staff work hard and they deserve more support.
- Wash the windows! Our apartment windows are filthy. Let us look outside through clean glass!
Sign the petition to tell Kings Highlands and Showe Management Group: DON'T RAISE OUR RENT! NO RENT INCREASE WITHOUT IMPROVEMENT AND MAINTENANCE! This petition will be submitted to the Showe Management Group's office at 45 N 4th St. It is against the law for Kings Highlands or the Showe Management Group to retaliate against you in any way for participating in this petition!
