Demanding Decency at King’s - Meal Plan & Dining
At King’s, cafeteria hours have been slimmed down to 10am-4pm and closed on weekends leading up to mid-January, severely limiting our access to fresh meals.
Nobody eats dinner at or before 4pm. Many eat breakfast before 10am during school days.
The conditions we have been put in are dehumanizing when compared to other academic institutions, including other UWO affiliates. Before the covid shutdowns, we were left with poor selection, now we are left with extreme limits to dining hours. King’s is putting itself in a position to be the laughingstock of Ontario University student life.
By signing this petition, King’s residence students are demanding BOTH of the following solutions:
- Extended cafeteria hours (8am-7pm is recommended as a minimum)
- Students under the meal plan be given the option to convert a portion of their meal plan dollars to off-campus dollars to make up for limited options in the month of January (recommended minimum when considering the meal plan amount and the time spent in residence = $600. However, I would recommend more as it is clear King’s dining options are already horrible.)
King’s is damaging its reputation with these modifications. Personally, I will not allow my younger siblings, friends, and others to attend King’s knowing my experience here.
We are all demanding liveable conditions and access to fresh food now, and will not settle for less.
