KCL has indicated that blended learning is likely to continue in the long term with only ‘interactive’ content being delivered in person. However, students are unhappy with this decision as we do not feel like we were adequately consulted on the matter. This change would result in drastically lower contact hours per week as non-interactive lectures make up the majority of the content in many degree programs.

It is still essential that there is an option for online learning due to continued access requirements, but the majority of students would be able to and would prefer to return to in-person teaching for the next academic year.

Due to the educational sacrifices and adjustments we have made, our requirements and needs are likely to differ from previous years. For example, we do not believe that because some students in previous years didn't attend in-person lectures, we should continue with solely pre-recorded lectures in the future, as this is still an important opportunity we ought have to access to.

Furthermore, the university has said that fees would be the same, and this is unacceptable. Courses delivered online by institutions such as the Open University cost substantially less money due to them being online and if KCL choose to put degrees partially online, tuition fees should reflect this.

Moreover, due to the recent government guidelines, restrictions on large gatherings are being lifted after the 19th of July. This is, in accordance to the prime minister, a "cautious but irreversible step" in the country's path to normality. Hence, there is no reason for the university to take away in person lectures.

For us, university is more than just a vector for information to be passed through. We see it as an opportunity to form connections, relations and build rapport with our peers and our lecturers. These things simply cannot be done through an online medium, and so many of us feel as if we missed out on a lot of the reasons why we fought so hard to get into university and come to KCL in the first place.

KCL must reconsider this decision as it was made without student support. We chose to come to a university campus to learn, socialise and gain experiences that can not be gained through a computer screen.
