Why this petition matters

Ethics Standard 12 B demands that Senators not discriminate based on Disability. The passing of HF 847 was a violation of that standard.
The Senators ignored the extreme risk posed to the Disabled and Medically Vulnerable students, their families and the Disabled/Medically Vulnerable in our community at large as this spreads virus throughout our state, making every place in Iowa, an unsafe place.
Senators were reminded by Senator Sarah Trone Garriott, of the danger this unmasking policy posed to several students and their families. I watched her presentation. So, I am aware that the Disabled were not forgotten, but instead dismissed as irrelevant, unimportant and simply collateral damage. The Americans with Disabilities Act was created for this reason. We are often dismissed, ignored or forgotten all together. This federal mandate was not considered or honored.
The Senators further violated their duty to, "Inspire confidence, respect and trust of the public" as stated in the preamble of the Ethics Standards, when they ignored the guidance of our national experts in Epidemiology, The CDC, NIH and even, IDPH, all maintain that unvaccinated people need to be masked. When asked to provide the scientific, peer reviewed studies used, none were provided. No overwhelming scientific evidence was presented to create HF 847. Public Health decisions were made without public health information. The mask ban was added to a budget item at midnight, with no public input. This does not inspire confidence, trust or respect.

Finally, I would like to remind the Ethics Committee that our Iowa Constitution explicitly states that all Iowans have a right to SAFETY. The Senators stripped my child of that right by passing HF 847, it stripped my family at home of that right as my child's exposure is a danger to us and it stripped all disabled Iowans of that right, as it makes our entire state unsafe. I ask that the Senators be held accountable for violating their oath and the Ethics Standards. Public Health decisions must be made with ALL IOWANS in mind. The Ethics Standards demand it.
