Marriage carries with it more than 1300 legal rights. The Humphries/Kardashian wedding reportedly raked in $17,000,000. It was the end-all of reality TV show fantasy weddings. The marriage lasted for all of 72 days before Ms. Kardashian filed for divorce. Humphries reportedly learned of the divorce filing via the media. Humphries and Kardashian are still entitled to all the legal rights attached to marriage, despite this either being, at best, a huge mistake, or, at worst, a fanatastic farce. On the other hand, gay couples [in all but six states, the District of Columbia and two Native Nations] are not entitled to those same legal protections, regardless of how long their commitments have thrived. This is patently unfair. Chiseling this discrimination into the state constitutions of North Carolina and Minnesota is a slap in the face to America's basic civic virtues. Kardashian, Humphries & E! should show their commitment to equality for all by joining the fight against the proposed antigay amedments in North Carolina & Minnesota.

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries and E! cable channel.
Given the overwhelming financial success of the recent Kardashian/Humphries wedding and the fact that the not-so-happy couple is still entitled to all the 1300+ legal rights and protections of marriage, despite the short lived duration of their union, we, the undersigned, urge you to make sizable donations to groups like Equality North Carolina, OutFront Minnesota and Project 515. These organizations and others are currently fighting to keep antigay discrimination out of the state constitutions of North Carolina and Minnesota. Please join the fight for marriage equality for all of us, including LGBT Americans.
