It was reported on 60 Minutes that it is not mandatory for childcare centres in Western Australia to report suspected abuse.

It should be mandatory to report suspected child abuse in childcare centres in Western Australia. Let's not allow Mason's death to be in vain. Join this petition to ensure that reporting is mandatory for all professionals interacting with children in all states and territories of Australia.

John Sandeman and his wife Sue were on a mission to change Queensland state laws that did not require childcare staff to inform authorities of suspected abuse.
The Sandemans believe their 16-month-old grandson, Mason Parker, would not have been murdered in 2011 if pictures of his injuries taken by childcare staff eight days before his death had been forwarded to authorities.

Sixteen-month-old Mason was killed by his mother's lover Troy Reed in 2011
But days before his death, childcare workers had photographed his bruises
However, the law didn't require them to alert police about suspected abuse
His mother has spoken for the first time about Mason's tragic death and Reed.

Troy William Reed, the de facto partner of Mason’s mother, was in November 2013 found guilty of Mason's murder.

From July, it will be compulsory for childcare centres in Queensland to report all cases of suspected abuse – and it will be known as Mason's Law.
