On April 30, 2019 the Cherry Hill BOE will vote on the 2019-2020 budget. In the current proposal the only new security measures are to add vestibules with minor office reconfiguration at Cherry Hill East and West at a cost of over $500,000. These two schools already have 3 officers, cameras and swipe cards. No new security features will be added to the middle schools or elementary schools.

The BOE needs to have the district remove the vestibules at the high schools from the plan. Vestibules are recommended by the NJDOE when funds are available and can be added on to the existing layout of the building. Instead the district needs to install cameras and swipe cards at the elementary and middle schools.

I am a alumni of Cherry Hill Public Schools and have two children currently enrolled. Like everyone I want all children to be in safe schools. It is important to put basic security measures in all of the schools before vestibules are built.
