Bring Back The Killingworth Children's Librarian Position

Bring Back The Killingworth Children's Librarian Position
Why this petition matters
Hello to the Killingworth Community. As many of you know, Gayle Byrne, our 20 year Children's Librarian, was laid off from her position at the Killingworth Library effective July 12, 2020. Not having a Children's Librarian is a huge loss to our community. Please sign this petition to help communicate that Killingworth desires a librarian dedicated to the youth population, and that Gayle Byrne is an asset and should continue to fulfill her position.
While our children were growing up, we relied on the children's programs for early education, literacy, and socialization. Walking into the library and being greeted by Gayle made us all feel like it was our second home. Gayle's resources and knowledge has made an impact on so many. She remembered all the children's names, what types of books they liked, and made many wonderful recommendations. Children benefit from this type of environment tremendously. The next generation needs programs where they can unplug, jump into a world of fantasy, learn, and make friends. These children need a dedicated librarian available to foster this growth. Why was this position eliminated? Most, if not all, of our neighboring towns have one to two librarians with the title of Children's Librarian/Children's Department Head/Head of youth Services. We feel that Killingworth should be able to offer the same.
Please join us in showing your support by signing this petition.
