Dear Premier Ford, Dr. Moore, Minister Lecce and Minister Elliott,

We applaud Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kieran Moore’s announcement that schools will be included when mask mandates are removed.

This is the RIGHT decision and a significant step in prioritizing Ontario’s kids in reopening plans. As restrictions are being lifted across the province, our youth cannot be left behind. It is time for Ontario to lead in the best interest of Ontario’s youth.

We urge you to lift in-school restrictions as they are lifted in the community. When changes are made to mandatory masking policies in the community, that must also be reflected in ALL Ontario schools for ALL of Ontario’s youth.

When gathering guidelines are changed and citizens can attend weddings and sporting events, that must be reflected with the return of in-school events and a full return to a normal school environment across ALL of Ontario’s schools.

Covid mitigation strategies should be consistent and designed by the Ministries and Public Health Units - not school boards, administrators, trustees and unions. Excessive restrictions are being implemented in a vacuum despite emotional, mental and physical impacts that are inconsistent with provincial recommendations. The inconsistencies are vast, harmful and breed confusion, doubt, and resentment.

Schools are more than just buildings - they are communities. Jurisdictions across Canada, the United States and Europe are now recognizing the significant, cumulative harms that our children have endured. They are making strides to restore school environments - and so must Ontario - this generation of children has sacrificed enough.

We support removing in-school restrictions as they are removed in our community.

Thank You,

Ontario's concerned parents and citizens
