I'm in the same boat with Citibank for my dead niece's student loan! Can't believe that the banks won't forgive the loans

It's unbelievable to me that this could happen to anyone, but it happens everyday. My uncle became disabled after just one year of college and he ended up paying for that loand 10 times over out of his disability pay. He's now 54 and the government has only now stopped making him pay. Personally, I believe that a lawsuit is in order.

I have student loans myself and would not want my family saddled and hounded by lenders in the event I am disabled or when I die. I would encourage and support all financial organizations that are involved with providing student loans be required by law to forgive the remaining balance on an education loan when the person is disabled and/or dies.

Student loans should be dischargeable due to death, like every other kind of loan out there. This bank is heartless! Leave his family alone!

This bank needs to understand that there is risk in doing business. In the life insurance business, it is that some one might die during the duration of the policy. The young man died. This is not middle ages where you can imprison someone for debt. The banks got lots of money in 2008 from the tax payer's i.e. this young man's family. Time for the bank to accept that they too, like any other type of business, have risk and the young man died. Time to stop harassing the family. Hope this public appeal on change.org leads to people pulling their accounts from this bank and the people closing the accounts telling the bank why. I don't do business with them or I would.
