Writing this has been something I have been torn about for a long time. I want to protect my brother's dignity but we are absolutely desperate for help and for people to listen.

On the 24th February 2021, my brother was taken into a psychiatric ward, 10 years to the day that my mother was killed by a drunk driver, which he survived.

This year has been hell. The only thing that has kept me going is seeing the strength that my brother has shown, alongside his pure and beautiful heart.

There have been extended periods where because of covid he has been in isolation and we have been unable to visit him. For someone who is mentally unwell, being in isolation alone is the absolute worst thing for their recovery and this has caused him unnecessary distress and trauma.

Currently, he is in isolation for 10 days without any stimulation or support due to someone on the ward testing positive for covid. He is triple vaccinated and has had two negative PCR tests. The current guidance is that if someone in your household has covid and you have a negative PCR test YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ISOLATE.

Surely in a psychiatric ward with emotionally vulnerable patients, this is completely unacceptable! I implore Nicola Sturgeon to change the guidance so that my brother and people like him do not need to go through any more unnecessary trauma.

Please sign this petition to help my brother and others like him to avoid more trauma.
